Central Texas has been very dry lately, increasing the chances of dangerous wildfires. Saturday marked National Wildfire Preparedness Day.
The Austin Fire Department held a Wildfire Preparedness Workshop Saturday at UT’s J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.
Participants wanted to learn what they can do to protect their homes.

The floods of Halloween 2013 demonstrated that flash flooding can happen quickly and without warning. To mark the end of National Flood Safety Awareness Week, Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department held an event to demonstrate various aspects of how they deal with rescues both on water and in the air.

The Austin Fire Department (AFD) announced today that two members of the department have been chosen to share the 100 Club of Central Texas’ "Outstanding Firefighter of the Year" award, which will be formally presented at a ceremony on April 4. Fire Specialist Reggie Tait and Firefighter Coitt Kessler are being lauded for their work on the West, Texas Memorial Service, which honored the lives of nine firefighters who were killed in an explosion at a fertilizer plant in April 2013.
