Austin Firefighters Association -  Local Chapter 975 of the International Association of Fire Fighters

The Austin Firefighters Association (AFA) is a nonpartisan organization based in Austin, Texas, that works to strengthen relations between Austin firefighters, the City, and the local community. Building a diverse workforce, running firefighter operations efficiently and most of all, preserving the safety of the Austin community, are the pillars of the organization.

More than fighting fires

Serving as stewards of safety within the Austin community, AFA works alongside Austin firefighters to ensure and put Austin Safety First. Did you know that Austin firefighters don’t just fight fires? Firefighters also respond to an array of additional emergencies, including:

  • Medical Emergencies

  • Administering Pit Crew CPR

  • Wildfire Response

  • Technical Rescue

  • Tower Rescue

  • Hazardous Materials Disposal

  • Swift Water Rescue

Additionally, as a part of Texas Task Force One, a special operations branch, Austin firefighters are able to respond to emergencies not only in Texas but around the world. With the ability to deploy in 6 hours or less, Austin firefighters are always on-the-ready to respond quickly as needed in Central Texas and beyond.

AFA’s Promise to Austin

Safety — Above all, we remain focused on the safety of Austin residents.

Efficiency & Cost Savings — As an organization, we want to run as efficiently as possible to ensure no taxpayer money is wasted on unnecessary paperwork vs. deliverable services to the residents of Austin.

Fairness — We want both parties to have equal ground to stand on when negotiating on behalf of Firefighters and the City of Austin. When negotiations are resolved quicker, City of Austin residents win.
