Austin Firefighters have a message for City Council and Austin Voters...THANK YOU!
Thank you for helping make a SAFER Austin for us all.
Because of your overwhelming support Austin Firefighters were able to gather over 25,000 signatures and we secured the support of Austin’s City Council and Mayor to ensure that when you call 911 the right number of firefighters will show up.
The new labor agreement ensures transparency and provides critical notice to communities and neighborhoods before any local fire station could ever be shut down.
With safer working conditions, enhanced physical and mental health safeguards, and an expanded protection of the life-saving FOUR firefighter staffing law, the new labor agreement fulfills the promise of public safety and will save lives for years to come.
Thank you Austin.
For a safer labor agreement. A safer community. For a safer Austin.
watch the documentary: A SAFER Austin
the documenatary that tells the story of the Austin Firefighters who faced cuts to public safety in the summer of 2025.
The members of the Austin Firefighters Association tell their story and how share much we appreciate the City Council for having our backs and NOT reversing the 4-person Staffing Ordinance. Firefighters make the case and clearly point the finger where it rightfully belongs to the Fire Chief and City Manager for pushing a reckless and dangerous staffing plan.
Firefighters share that the underlying data and facts prove that Chief Baker and the Budget Director included many items in their calculations for absenteeism that are NOT absenteeism at all and thus materially skew the results.
Examples include but are not limited to, hours included above the firefighters maximum 53 hours work week( scheduled time off to comply with FLSA), fire department firefighter position vacancies, injury on the job (IOJ) recovery time, military leave, assignment leave to work at other sections (like being assigned to teach at the Cadet academy…and the list goes on and on…all inappropriately included in the absenteeism rate calculation in the July 28th Memo.
